Swazi Dlamini Live - "Gospel Meets Jazz" CD/DVD - Press Release

Swazi Dlamini Live

Release date: end March 2011

MULTI Award winning female artist Swazi Dlamini’s Third Album has finally arrived! The artist has been busy finalising the long awaited GOSPEL MEETS JAZZ album together with her husband, Violinist, Producer and Dreamgirls musical director - Tshepo Mngoma.

AFTER a successful series of shows in hometown Durban and a national tour of South Africa including Gauteng, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, Swazi promises her growing legion of fans of GOSPEL MEETS JAZZ an interesting expression of spiritual and inspirational music, an album like no other.

“GOSPEL AND JAZZ are soothing and inspiring genres and as an artist with a love for both it is only natural that I would fuse the styles to create my own sound,” says Swazi. Her love for music including both Jazz and Gospel in her background, Swazi has come up with a balanced album that reflects who she is and what she is about.

INTRODUCING her third album, Swazi has made an appearance on one of SA’s biggest TV Gospel shows GOSPEL TIME. She performed two songs -  ‘’Mkhothameleni and Psalm 23’’ which wowed her fans.  This led to many enquiries re the release date. At a listening session  held at the Wits Amphitheatre  on the 5th of March 2011, the  feedback during her one on one Q&A session with those in attendance it became evident that the album will be well received by Jazz and Gospel lovers alike.

SWAZI’S new album introduces a different sound, essence and feel to the Gospel and  Jazz genre. The marriage of brilliant vocals with Tshepo Mngoma’s string arrangements gives testimony to their love for music and each other. This album is worth the 5 year wait as Swazi’s last offering was in 2006.

SHE releases Swazi Dlamini LIVE in Durban “Gospel Meets Jazz” at the end of March 2011 under the Shammah Records label which she co-owns with award winning husband Tshepo Mngoma. Tshepo won the SAMA award as Best Newcomer 2010 for his album People and Places.

ALSO signed to this label is 2010 Crown Gospel Award winning Sifaniso (Best Jazz Album).  He features on a salsa song called Yekubuhle on Swazi’s forthcoming album. Also included are Crown Gospel award nominees Songs and Psalms - a gospel group made up of various singers from Durban.
“THIS album represents my heart and soul, my purpose for being, my passions, love and victories, I trust those who love my music will love it just as much as I do, to God be the Glory”

Swazi Dlamini In The Music Industry - Wow!!!

Swazi Dlamini and her Kora and SAMA Awards

A young female artist and former Joyous member, who is also a business woman in the music industry with Swazitainment Productions and Shammah Records as 2 of her co-owned companies with husband and fellow musician, Tshepo Mngoma.
Her debut album , “My First Love” released 2003 with Sony Music, won her much acclaim as one of the most celebrated young artists in South Africa and internationally alike. This album saw her being awarded, SAMA 2004 Best Female artist, and KORA 2004 most promising African Female artist for that year. The album displayed Swazi Dlamini’s versatility as a singer and her ability to experiment with new sounds and languages. Produced by award winning international icon Jimmy Dludlu it is no wonder that this first offering from this great singer, did so well. This album was dedicated to her other first love either than music her son Thandolwami, born in the same year.
2006 saw her releasing a power packed sophomore album simply entitled “Dance with Me”, the album though confused to be an RnB offering because of the title track with has a strong RnB “stepping” feel, is actually yet another showcase Swazi Dlamini’s use f her voice in jazz, gospel, blues and African styles of music. She features another vocal Powerhouse who is well known in the jazz fraternity, who she worked with in her days of being a backing singer, Gloria Bosman. One can feel the energy they share in “Sing a happy song” to be electrifying and just amazing. The song that makes this album popular and much loved by all South Africans is her rendition of the African Renaissance speech by then president Thabo Mbeki “I am an African”, this song speaks about the pride she has in being an African woman and gets everyone feeling very proud to be an African.

Swazi Dlamini - I am an African

The jazz artist, who refined her singing skills in Joyous Celebration, worked in Johannesburg before moving to Durban and back to Johannesburg. At present she is a businesswoman who, besides singing, also runs Swazitainment, a music label and an events management company. “The company has signed on Songs and Psalms, which is a collaboration between Swazitainment and Shammah Records,” Dlamini says.

Swazi Dlamini

SWAZI DLAMINI Swazi Dlamini – when one is sitting in an audience listening to the sounds of this young female performer, just one word can best describe the experience, “PHENOMINAL’!
Having presented albums- Dance with me & My first love- that are musically rich and laden with experience from all walks of life, that not only saw her bridging the gap with different generations but also putting her on the map as a South African singer and placing her neck to neck with other female singers some of which she has worked with as a back up singer.
